We are delighted to watch children grow in an Kindergarten! Kindergarten is an exciting year of discovery, faith, and growth at Divine Mercy Academy. As part of our commitment to nurturing the whole child, academically, spiritually, and emotionally, we are pleased to introduce a new approach to kindergarten assessment: the Diocese of Pittsburgh Kindergarten Badge Book. The Badge Book is a new, developmentally appropriate assessment tool designed specifically for our youngest learners. As children build new skills and master foundational concepts, they will earn colorful badges representing important milestones in areas such as Faith Formation, Early Literacy and Math Skills, Foundational Learning Skills and Social and Emotional Development Skills. This system honors the individual pace at which children grow. The Badge Book highlights personal progress, helps children set goals, and inspires them to soar with confidence as they see their learning celebrated in real time. We want you to know that this exciting new approach will replace the traditional Kindergarten report card. The Badge Book provides specific, skill-based feedback in place of generalized report card indicators that can sometimes leave families wondering what a mark truly represents. You will receive ongoing feedback throughout the year that is specific, joyful, and focused on your child’s development. You’ll also have opportunities to engage with your child’s badge progress and learn ways to support their continued growth at home. Beyond academics, the Badge Book reflects what makes Catholic education so special. It supports growth in faith, kindness, independence, and character. It’s a beautiful way to honor the whole child as they grow in both knowledge and spirit.
